Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald
Good morning everyone!
The House is back in session this week, and our legislative focus of the week is law enforcement as we recognize and celebrate National Police Week.
As far left liberals continue their chants to Defund the Police, House Republicans will stand strongly through both words and actions in support of our brave law enforcement. House Republicans will bring a package of proposals to the floor that highlight and support law enforcement officers.
Part of the struggles law enforcement officers have faced is due to the crisis at the southern border spilling into every state across the U.S. I had the opportunity to visit the southern border again last week where I saw the situation for myself. I spoke with border agents on the ground who detailed to me the day-to-day challenges they face thanks to the Biden Administration’s failing leadership on the border. This past Saturday marked one year since House Republicans passed H.R. 2, the Secure Our Border Act. This legislation was historically strong border legislation and I urge the Senate and the President to help push this bill across the finish line for the sake of our country and national security.
Have a great week!
- Scott

National Police Week
Ever since President Biden took office, the left’s anti-police movement and calls to Defund the Police have led to widespread violent crime across the country. Despite receiving constant attacks from liberal politicians, our brave law enforcement officers have remained committed to their duty to defend.
This week, I’m proud to celebrate National Police Week. This week feels especially important to me, having grown up in a law enforcement family. My House Republican colleagues and I will celebrate National Police Week and honor America's law enforcement heroes by bringing to the floor a series of bills that highlight our continued support for our brave men and women in blue.
A few of these bills include:
- H.Res.1213 condemns calls to defund the police, which has increased violence towards law enforcement officers.
- H.R. 7343 the Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act requires Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to detain any illegal immigrant who has been charged with or convicted of assaulting a law enforcement officer.
- H.R.354 the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act (LEOSA) Reform Act expands the LEOSA exemption to allow qualified active and retired law enforcement officers to carry firearms on state, local, and private property otherwise open to the public and also extends the exemption to magazine capacity and would allow active and retired law enforcement officers to access these Federal facilities without disarming or securing their firearms elsewhere.
Field Hearing at the Southern Border
Since President Biden took office, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials have encountered more than 7.6 million illegal aliens along the southwest border. President Biden has taken various steps that have eroded border security and prevented effective immigration enforcement including terminating construction of the border wall and issuing orders that severely restrict immigration officers’ ability to arrest, detain, and remove aliens who violate U.S. law.
To that end, the House Judiciary Committee held a field hearing titled: “The Biden Border Crisis: Arizona Perspectives” last week to hear from border patrol agents and Arizona citizens who have been impacted by Biden’s border policies. I also had an opportunity to go see the border with a few border agents where I heard more about how this administration’s policies are making their task of keeping the border secure incredibly difficult and dangerous.
You can watch my full committee hearing Q&A here.
Joined Fox Business to Discuss the Politicization of the DOJ
In case you missed it, I joined Fox Business to discuss the politicization at President Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ). Whether it be the shameless investigations into President Trump or the willful obstruction of official subpoenas from House Congressional Committees, AG Merrick Garland has proven the department is anything BUT transparent and forthcoming.
