Dear Fellow Patriot,
If you opened this letter because you remember my playing days with the Dodgers and the Padres, thank you.
Having you and all of America's baseball fans cheering for me and Davey Lopes, Bill Russell, Ron Cey and the rest of the guys as we battled Reggie Jackson, Thurman Munson and the Yankees...
...well, as they say, "Those were the days."
But this email – isn't about baseball in fact, it's an email I never thought I'd be writing to you.
Today, I'm asking you to help me defeat the radical Adam Schiff for a seat in the United States Senate.
Today, I'm asking you to help me start a Republican Comeback Rally that folks will be talking about for generations to come.
Because when you think about it, those 'good-ol' days of the 1970s weren't as good as we tend to first remember.
Baseball was just a welcome distraction from the gloom and malaise that had settled on our country thanks to one failed Democrat policy after another.
I'm running for the United States Senate because 2024 America is starting to look a lot like 1970s America.
You remember what it was like:
► Not only were gas prices sky high, Carter's rationing meant we could only buy gas on even or odd days depending on our license plate numbers. Remember?
► Eleven Israeli athletes were slaughtered at the Olympic Village in Munich by terrorists. Remember?
► Fifty-two Americans were held hostage for 444 days by terrorists in Iran. Remember?
Democrat policies had brought America to its knees.
And now, as Yogi Berra used to say, "It's deja vu all over again."
There's fear of walking down the street because of rampant crime, homelessness, and drug addiction. The cost of living is exploding and for the first time causing more people to leave California.
Joe Biden, Adam Schiff and the rest of the Democrats don't care one bit that Americans are having a hard time. I'd go even further to say they welcome the misery so they can keep folks down and dependent.
And I wouldn't blame you if you said, "Steve, I'm afraid America's best days are behind us."
But listen, here's something I also want you to remember...
We Republicans pulled our country out of that 1970's Democratic malaise by electing Ronald Reagan.
We put classic conservative values at the heart of everything we did.
And America became a shining city upon a hill once more.
We can do that again.
It starts by stunning the Democrats with a Senate win in California.
But there's no way I can pull it off without you.
That's why I'm asking you to rush back your Garvey for Senate contribution of $35 or more right away.
I'm sorry for the urgency but Election Day is just six months away...
And in that time, we need to build a 58-county, grassroots campaign capable of defeating Adam Schiff who has ActBlue allies and a war chest he's assembled during his two decades in Washington, D.C.
That may seem daunting, but I know with your help, I can beat him in November.
Why?
First... I've lived and worked in California for over 50 years, and I can tell you -- voters here have had it with the Democrats like I've never seen before.
They are hungry for change, and if you and I work together to reach voters in every neighborhood, on every beach, in every corner of California...
I know we can turn this historic opportunity into a Republican win.
Second... you know I'm not a career politician.
But I do have the one thing a Republican needs to get elected in California...
…name recognition.
I'm no Schwarzenegger and I'd certainly never dare compare myself to President Reagan.
But California voters know me.
And Adam Schiff and the Democrats are shaking in their boots seeing how quickly I rose in the polls after entering the race.
As I'm writing you this letter, there are just a few percentage points separating us.
We've got a shot -- a very real shot -- in the general election. But we only have six months. And the giant Democrat political machine is going to use every second of that time trying to bury me and our common sense message.
When you rush your Garvey for Senate campaign contribution of $35 or more...
...you're helping fund ads, appearances, events, fliers, door knockers, EVERYTHING that blankets California with the message:
You don't have to accept failed Democrat policies that make all of us less safe, less prosperous, and less free.
This race is the toughest in the nation.
But they say the hardest thing to do in sports is hit a 95-mph fastball.
And you know I've done that plenty of times.
Now I'm ready to do the hardest thing in American politics -- win in California as a common sense Republican.
But I can't do it without you.
When we win here... when we rip this seat out of the hands of the radical Adam Schiff...
...we start the nationwide Republican Comeback Rally our country desperately needs.
It all depends on the choice you make in the next 48 hours.
You can do nothing and continue to suffer the agony of defeat. Or you can step up to the plate with me and take a swing for the thrill of victory. Please join me. Because when we win in California, we're winning for all of America.
