Blueberries are a favorite snack for many kids and adults. But in recent years there’s been an alarming rise in pesticide residues on blueberries. 90% of non-organic blueberries tested positive for pesticide residues, and a single sample contained 17 different pesticides.

Among the pesticide residues found on blueberries were several neonics. These bee-killing pesticides have been linked to the massive global decline in bees as well as harm to children’s developing brains. Strawberries are once again at the top of this year’s Dirty Dozen™ list, in first place for produce with the highest levels of pesticide residues. 99% of strawberries have pesticide residues, and 22 different pesticides were detected on a single strawberry sample!

EWG scientists found cancer-linked imazalil on nearly 90% of non-organic citrus samples! Even after peeling the fruit, the average concentration of imazalil was about 20 times higher than EWG’s recommended limit.
