Advocate,
Our nation is hurting right now. We are all hurting right now.
And instead of unifying us, some leaders are using these uncertain times to feed hate. To inflame racism. To sow division. To pit state versus state. And to turn their backs on the communities historically pushed to the margins.
The result? A terrifying rise in hate incidents targeting Asian American and immigrant communities. We are also seeing an increase in the targeting of people of color, religious minorities, people with disabilities, and the LGBTQ community.
Lawmakers must now inspire unity and lift up our shared responsibilities amid this pandemic: caring for our families, our communities, and each other. Many people on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis are from the same communities increasingly targeted for hate. These are our neighbors who treat the sick, tend to the elderly, work on farms and in grocery stores, and ensure our country has the services we need to survive.
They are looking out for us. And we must look out for them.
Words have consequences. Policies have consequences. Our leaders must use their power to unequivocally condemn hate and ensure survivors of acts of hate and their families have the support they need.
Advocate, will you call on your lawmakers to speak out against hate by sharing this graphic on social media?
