Dear Friends, The May 16th National VIRTUAL Day of Action to End Solitary is almost here! NRCAT is looking forward to joining our partners in the Federal Anti-Solitary Taskforce (FAST) for a day dedicated to promoting the End Solitary Confinement Act, which would end solitary confinement in federal prisons, jails and immigration detention facilities. Join in the Day of Action to End Solitary on Thursday, May 16th: 1) Tune in to a virtual panel discussion at noon ET / 9am PT, focused on the impact of solitary on immigrants and asylum seekers held in ICE detention – register here for the "A View from the Ground: The Impact of Solitary Confinement in ICE Detention" webinar. The panel will be moderated by Sirine Shebaya (Executive Director, National Immigration Project), and will feature Sabi Ardalan (Director, Harvard Immigrant and Refugee Clinical Program); Laura Lunn (Director of Advocacy & Litigation, Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network); Viktoria Zerda (Attorney, ACLU of Pennsylvania); and Anisah Sabur-Mumin (National Coordinator, Unlock the Box Campaign). The panel is co-hosted by FAST, NRCAT, the National Immigration Project, and the National Immigrant Justice Center. 2) Ask your Senators and Representative to co-sponsor the End Solitary Confinement Act – Use NRCAT’s sample message to your Members of Congress and then ask your friends and community to do the same. 3) Share on social media using this easy-to-use toolkit. 4) Say a prayer for the 122,000 people currently in solitary confinement, the thousands more whose lives have been impacted by it, and over 100 advocates who are meeting with the offices of Members of Congress on May 16. (Registration is now closed for these Hill meetings) Together we can make a difference, The NRCAT Team |
