Finchelstein serves as Professor of History at the New School and Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts in NYC.
Sam discusses the events of this past
week including Trump’s trials (including what’s getting prosecuted and
what’s being postponed indefinitely), the escalating genocide in Gaza as
the Israeli military started to invade Rafah and the ongoing bravery of
students across the country who continue to demand an end to this
genocide.

What's going on right now has a lot of relation to what fascism was before. These new populists of the 21st century, people such as Trump or Bolsonaro, they seem to be wanting to return to fascism…Sadly, the lack of history and lack of memory in societies creates a face or an opportunity for this type of politician….In societies that protect the dissidents, protect protests, protect the independent press, fascism cannot win. You know. what stops them from becoming full-fledged fascists, as opposed to one- away fascists is us.
