SBE TO MEET VIRTUALLY ON MAY 16

CHEYENNE - The Wyoming State Board of Education (SBE) will meet virtually at 9 a.m. on May 16. 

The SBE will convene to receive and take action on recommendations on applications for alternative calendars for the upcoming 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years. Schools submit applications for alternative calendars to operate on fewer than 175 student days. Schools applying for an alternative calendar must demonstrate how they plan to meet the minimum number of teacher/pupil contact hours.

The board will receive information regarding the annual accreditation of school districts. Each district must submit evidence on a wide range of areas that demonstrate compliance with state law, such as the teaching and assessing of standards, school safety, and effective school practices. In addition, schools receive an on-site peer review every five years. The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) will present accreditation findings and make recommendations to the board for action during the June meeting. The WDE continues to provide support for schools and districts if accredited with follow up or accredited with support.

Presentations will include teachers and students involved in Wyoming’s Project Citizen and the University of Wyoming with results from a multi-year study of high school transition programs.
