*Husted Celebrates Opportunities in Ohio During
In-Demand Jobs Week*
(COLUMBUS, Ohio)— Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted, Director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, last week led a statewide tour for In-Demand Jobs Week where he visited 12 counties, seven schools, four businesses, and one career exploration event.
In-Demand Jobs Week was designed to promote Ohio’s most in-demand and fastest-growing industries through statewide hiring, education, and training events. This year, the theme for In-Demand Jobs Week 2024 was "Ohio, The Heart of Opportunity."
*Monday, May 6th*
On Monday, Lt. Governor Husted kicked off In-Demand Jobs Week by attending Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center’s groundbreaking event. Pickaway-Ross received funding through the Career Tech Construction Grant [ [link removed] ], allowing them to expand their facility and serve up to an additional 100 students.

*Tuesday, May 7th *
On Tuesday, Lt. Governor Husted continued the In-Demand Jobs Week Tour in Southeast Ohio by visiting New Lexington City Schools. New Lexington High School offers the unique Emergent Welding Program that allows 3rd through 5th graders to explore this in-demand job so they can see first-hand one of the career opportunities in their community.

He also joined Buckeye Hills Career Center for their "Blue Collar Celebration," which included a signing day for students entering the workforce and a groundbreaking event for their new training facility. The expansion was made possible because of grant funding the school received through the Career Tech Construction Gran [ [link removed] ]t [ [link removed] ], allowing them to serve an additional 110 students each year.

To end the day, Lt. Governor Husted visited Crownover Lumber in Vinton County. Crownover Lumber has been in business in Ohio since 1957, providing quality lumber to our state and country. Ohio has 206% more jobs in the wood and paper industry than the national average.

*Wednesday, May 8th *
On Wednesday, Lt. Governor Husted started his day with a tour at Tri-Rivers Career Center, which recently received the Career Tech Construction Grant [ [link removed] ] and the Super RAPIDS [ [link removed] ] grant, helping graduate more career-ready students every year.

He then visited Libbey Glass in Toledo, Ohio – the Glass Capital of the World. The Lt. Governor saw the full melting, cooling, cleaning, and packaging process for Libbey Glass products. Libbey Glass opened in Ohio in 1888.

Lt. Governor Husted also toured Vanguard Sentinel Career and Technology Center’s Fremont Campus, which was awarded funding through both the Career Tech Construction Grant [ [link removed] ] and the Career Technical Education Equipment Grant [ [link removed] ]. With this funding, they will be able to expand their facilities and purchase new equipment to serve 200 additional students every year.

*Thursday, May 9th *
On Thursday, Lt. Governor Husted kicked off the fourth day of In-Demand Jobs Week at the 23rd Annual ACI Construction Career Day. This is the largest construction exploration and hiring event in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, with over 3,000 local students attending.

He then went to Greene County Career Center for a tour of their facility. The career center received Career [ [link removed] ] Technical Education Equipment Grant [ [link removed] ] and Super RAPIDS [ [link removed] ] grant funding to purchase new equipment to expand their health care pathways and create a new HVAC program, helping to serve an additional 75 total students each year. While there, he learned how to weld with the help of one of the students.

To conclude the day, Lt. Governor Husted visited GE Aerospace’s new headquarters in Evendale, Ohio. GE Aerospace currently employs approximately 10,500 individuals in Southwest Ohio, representing the single largest concentration of GE Aerospace employees worldwide.

*Friday, May 10th *
On Friday, Lt. Governor Husted visited Parma City Schools for a tour of their high school which was one of five traditional high schools to receive the Career Tech Construction Grant [ [link removed] ]. Normandy High School will expand both the Auto Collision and Carpentry programs to serve more students each year.

To conclude the week, he visited Goyal Industries in Mansfield, Ohio and joined a roundtable discussion with local industry leaders to discuss Ohio’s booming manufacturing industry. Goyal Industries has been in Ohio for 36 years.
