WTU calls for a contract during Teacher Appreciation Week

Members of the Washington Teachers' Union want DC Public Schools to show their appreciation with a contract, and they made it clear during Teacher Appreciation Week last week. Staff from Elliot Hine Middle School, Eastern High, Dorothy Height Elementary, MacFarland Middle School and Roosevelt High School joined actions last week demanding real solutions.

Workers at Urban Institute prepare for bargaining

Workers at the Urban Institute, who are organized with the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU), spread some solidarity last week ahead of their contract negotiations. In April union members delivered a petition signed by hundreds of employees calling on management to reach a timely and fair collective bargaining agreement.

Apple workers in Maryland vote to strike — the first ever against the tech giant
|
Unionized employees at an Apple Store in Towson, Md., have voted to authorize a strike in response to the tech giant failing to bargain in good faith over its first union contract. “This vote today is the first step in demonstrating our solidarity and sends a clear message to Apple,” the union’s negotiating committee said in a statement. The workers are unionized with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). Read more »

DC COPE Committee interviews candidates for DC Council

The Metropolitan Washington Council's DC COPE Committee began its interviews last week with candidates running for DC Council. The committee met with candidates for Ward 7 Councilmember last Thursday, and will meet with candidates for Ward 4 and At-Large Council offices today.
