What happened here in Wisconsin on Tuesday is the clearest case of playing politics with people’s lives yet, John.
After the Republican legislature refused to postpone an election in the middle of a pandemic, voters in Milwaukee waited in lines at just 5 of the city’s 180 polling locations for up to three hours — through torrential downpours, hail, and great risks to their health.
People fought and died for the right to vote, and on Tuesday, people in predominantly Black and Brown communities put their lives at risk to cast a ballot. I don’t know how long we can go on this way, but I do know it’s on us to make sure voters don’t forget the choices Republicans made in November.
I’ve been a member of the Working Families Party since long before I ran for Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin, and I know the WFP is committed to building an America that works for the many, not the few. Will you donate $3 today to help power this movement, defeat this Republican corruption, and make this November the biggest progressive wave yet?

A lot of people have asked me, "Why was this election so important to Republicans in spite of a catastrophic pandemic?"
Courts matter. Donald Trump has spent so much time stacking the courts, and if there’s an opportunity for Republicans to keep a state supreme court under their control — or any office, for that matter — they’ll take it.
We got to this point because of a long trend of voter suppression that’s been going on across Wisconsin and this country. But it doesn’t have to be this way: progressives can step up with the same energy that Republicans approach elections with to fight for candidates at every level of government that will champion the interests of working people, not entrenched political power.
The Working Families Party here in Wisconsin and across the country is a critical partner in the fight, and I know I can count on them to be there every step of the way. Please donate today to support their critical organizing work in the weeks and months ahead.
Thank you for standing with us,
Mandela Barnes
Lt. Governor of Wisconsin
