Department on Aging Seeks Nominations for Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame
Nominate an outstanding older adult by June 1
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – The Illinois Department on Aging (IDoA) is seeking nominations of outstanding older adults for possible induction into the Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame later this year.
“Being named to the Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame is a tremendous honor for individuals who have made a positive and lasting impact in their communities,” said IDoA Acting Director Mary Killough. “I encourage anyone who has been inspired by an older adult in their life to submit a nomination soon before the June 1 deadline.”
The Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame honors the accomplishments of current and long-time Illinois residents aged 65 and older. Inductees are selected from public nominations in four categories:
- Arts, sports, and entertainment
- Community service
- Education
- Labor
Anyone may nominate an older adult for this award, though self-nominations are prohibited. Nominators of 2024 Hall of Fame inductees are expected to help coordinate and participate in an award ceremony, to be scheduled this fall, honoring their nominee.
Nominations must be
submitted electronically or postmarked on or before June 1, 2024, to be considered for the induction Class of 2024. Nominations are evaluated and scored by members of the
Illinois Council on Aging, a state-led advisory group of aging experts and older adults.
Since its inception 30 years ago, the Senior Illinoisans Hall of Fame has inducted 137 inspiring older adults. View past inductees, find more information, or submit a nomination
