Dear Friend,
There’s no doubt agriculture drives the American economy. This past week, I attended the celebration of this critical industry on the National Mall where I spoke about the importance of a strong Farm Bill for farm families nationwide. In this week’s newsletter, I also have updates on preparing for hurricane season as well as information about my upcoming Mobile Office Hours program and the 2024 Congressional App Challenge. Keep reading below for more information!

Agriculture has always been the dominant industry in North Carolina and currently contributes $103.2 billion to our state’s economy, far outpacing any other industry in economic output. To celebrate American agriculture and its contributions to our nation's success, I joined Ag on the Mall 2024 with my friends at the Association of Equipment Manufacturers as well as my colleague, Congressman Dusty Johnson, for a discussion on the Farm Bill and Rural America. We know America's farm families are facing a great deal of uncertainty, and I will continue working to ensure they have the necessary support to continue feeding America and the world. Click here to listen to our conversation about the important programs in this year's Farm Bill, including crop insurance, improving economic opportunity in rural America, animal disease prevention, and promoting research and extension services for our producers.

For this week's good news story, I'm highlighting Krish Mishra, a student at Hoggard High School in Wilmington, who recently received the Congressional Award Bronze Medal for North Carolina’s Seventh District. To earn the Bronze Medal, Krish completed 200 hours of service over seven months, with 100 hours in public volunteer service, 50 hours in personal development, and 50 hours in physical fitness, as well as a two-day expedition. Krish spent these hours working at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Children's Hospital as a volunteer, as well as a volunteer during the Healthy Kids Running Series, Turtle Trots, and more. He also learned how to read, write, and speak Hindi, played tennis every week, and planned a trip to New York City with family to watch a US Open tennis match and visit various historic landmarks.
Earning this award requires tremendous determination, and I'm proud of Krish for demonstrating a strong commitment to achieving personal goals while bettering our communities in Southeastern North Carolina. Congratulations!
