Extreme elements of the Republican party have had a 50-year head start in pushing through their autocratic agenda. Rick and I saw hints of it throughout our careers as GOP strategists, but we believed they represented the fringe of the party. We were dead wrong — they weren’t the fringe; they were the dark core that has become the party itself – and the media is helping them.

This is not theoretical for me. I’ve worked in five presidential races and helped elect GOP governors and senators in over half the country. I know many of these people; I know their world and how they function. Jason Miller interned for me! As dangerous as they may seem, they are worse. Today’s Republican Party and its media enablers have become an autocratic movement. If we look away from this truth, we greatly increase the likelihood that the America we love will slip away.

As I said in my latest book, The Conspiracy to End America, the greatest danger is often not recognizing the greatest danger — and the greatest danger lies right on our televisions, computers, and phones in the form of right-wing propaganda dead set on ending our democracy.

…and it’s not just the deceptive voices in the MAGA MEDIA, the entire media ecosystem is failing at this pivotal moment. After eight brutal years, far too much of our “mainstream media” continue normalizing Trump and the threat to our democracy. They are locked in a dangerous paradigm of trying to tell both sides of a lie. That’s just one of the things we’ll get into in our special 3-part conversation.
