On this Mother’s Day, I am sending my love and gratitude to mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures.
Growing up one of seven children, I saw my mother’s tireless work to provide for us and set us up for a bright future. An elementary school teacher who furthered her education by attending school at night, she made sure all seven of us graduated from college. Thanks to her sacrifice, I learned the importance of dedication, hard work, and community–values I still uphold today.

They are our first teachers, our fiercest advocates, and our greatest sources of inspiration. Their contributions to our families and our community are invaluable, and their strength and resilience deserve to be celebrated.
Let’s also recognize the ongoing challenges many mothers face and recommit ourselves to supporting policies that promote maternal health, paid family leave, childcare access, and equal opportunities for all mothers and caregivers.
