Today is my seventh Mother’s Day without my son Ethan.
On January 31, 2018, Ethan was shot in the head at his best friend's house.
His friend’s father owned three handguns that were stored in a shoebox with ammunition.
Ethan’s friend had been accessing the unsafely stored guns for over six months.
At the hospital, the ER doctor slid down the wall, put his head in his hands, and whispered, "Your son is gone." At that instant, my whole world imploded into a million tiny pieces.
I begged to say goodbye to my beautiful boy. I wanted to kiss his forehead, tell him how cherished he was, and tuck him in one last time.
But the doctor begged me to remember Ethan as he was, you see, he was unrecognizable even to my eyes.
Ethan, me, and our family dog.

Months later, the prosecutor told me she would not charge the negligent gun owner and if I wanted them to be held accountable, I would have to change the law
And I helped pass safe storage laws in Michigan, New Mexico, and Maryland, too.
I’m not stopping there. I’m determined to make sure no mother has to endure the pain of her child being stolen from this world too soon because of unsecured firearms. And if we want to protect all children from negligent gun owners, we need federal legislation mandating safe firearm storage. But the Republicans controlling the House Majority refuse to stand up for our children’s safety. So, I’m teaming up with BAWN to kick these complacent lawmakers out of office and replace them with gun safety candidates. We need to 225 gifts before Mother’s Day is over in 12 hours, to fully fund our campaign and support candidates running to defeat the lawmakers standing in our way. Can I count on you to chip in $15
before midnight? Your donation will directly support electing bold leaders who will protect our children by passing safe storage laws. >>
I need you to understand how serious this is.
Just this week, a 3-year-old handling a loaded unsecured gun shot himself in Tennessee.
And a 2-year-old died in Ohio after shooting himself with a loaded unsecured gun found in his home.
Every day, eight children and teens are unintentionally injured or killed in a shooting involving an improperly stored or misused gun in the home.
On top of that, over 4.6 million children and teens live in homes where they are exposed to unsafely stored guns.
The fact is, if Ethan’s Law was passed, so many deaths and injuries of children who gain access to unsecured firearms could be prevented. No mother – no family – should EVER have to go through the pain and horror of losing a child so tragically. That’s why I won’t rest until ALL gun owners with children in their homes are required to safely and securely store their weapons, as truly responsible gun owners should. And while I’m exhausted, I’m also proud to fight alongside BAWN to elect brave gun safety candidates who support Ethan’s Law, safe storage legislation, and other common-sense measures. This is our once-in-a-generation chance to secure a gun safety majority in Congress – but only if we work together to get it done. If 225 supporters chip in before midnight, BAWN will have the funds to support gun safety candidates running to defeat the gun lobby’s handpicked puppets like the ones that blocked a vote on Ethan’s Law in the Senate in December. Can I count on you to pitch in $15
before Mother’s Day ends at midnight? The more you give, the more BAWN can give to candidates who will vote to pass Ethan’s Law and other critical gun safety measures. >>
Thanks for all that you do,
Kristin Song

BAWN is committed to replacing every cowardly and complacent lawmaker, regardless of party, that denies your right to live without fear of being shot. Legislators that support the deadly proliferation of guns, instead of common sense gun safety measures, are responsible for the carnage of gun violence -- and must be voted out.
BAWN also lobbies legislators to support the assault weapon and large capacity magazine ban bills that will help put an end to the slaughter of innocent Americans.
But they can’t do this alone. BAWN is relying on your support to kick every coward who refuses to protect our children and families OUT of office. Will you chip in right away?
