Mother’s Day is always one of the hardest days of the year for me. Since I lost my son Jordan almost 12 years ago, I’ve carried his memory with me everywhere - in each new journey since.
When I launched my campaign for Congress in 2018, when nobody thought we could win, Jordan’s spirit was right there with me. Every time someone would tell me I was making a mistake running for Congress, that we couldn’t win - I felt like he was right there with me, telling me “Mom, WE got this.”
The night we won, against all odds - I knew Jordan was with me in my spirit.

Every Mother’s Day I reflect on what Mother’s Day has meant to me. Before I lost Jordan, I would spend Mother’s Day like any other mom - thankful that I get to spend precious time with my son on this day every year. After I lost Jordan, Mother’s Day was a bitter reminder of his murder. The first several years I was crushed with pain and agony, thinking of all the things that I will never be able to do with my precious son.
As time has went on, and as I have found a way to keep Jordan’s legacy alive - Mother’s Day has become a time where I can reflect on the greatest joy of my life that came from being a mother. And I hope that every mother out there is able to do the same.
Thank you, and God bless.
