Happy Mother's Day, friend!

Mothers do so much for their families and their communities, so I’d like to take a moment and recognize all the mothers who might be reading this: thank you for everything you do.

I would also like to reaffirm my commitment to creating real policy solutions to the broad range of issues moms still face today. That means paid family and medical leave. That means universal pre-K and equal pay for equal work. And now more than ever, it also means safeguarding women’s freedom to make our own health care and reproductive decisions.

With the disastrous Dobbs decision in 2022, the Supreme Court opened the floodgates to a wave of attacks on our reproductive rights. We’ve seen near-total abortion bans passed in red states across the country that have forced women into impossible situations, including making some women get so sick before receiving care that they may never be able to get pregnant again.

And the worst part is – they’re not just stopping at abortion. Now, anti-choice extremists are even targeting in vitro fertilization, or IVF, a procedure that makes motherhood possible for millions of women facing difficulties conceiving – including myself.

Like many couples in America, my husband Dave and I struggled to start a family, and we knew that IVF was our last option. The journey was difficult – more difficult than most women will say – and there were moments when it felt almost impossible. But IVF gave us hope, and we were incredibly fortunate that it ultimately brought us our two beautiful daughters.

Friend, I will not sit idly by while extreme MAGA Republicans try to outlaw this family creating treatment that has helped countless women like me become mothers. As long as I am in Congress, I pledge to you that I will never stop fighting for our reproductive rights and ensuring that every woman has the freedom to make choices about her own body and her family’s future.
