Happy Mother's Day! To the mothers reading this email, I hope you have a beautiful day surrounded by love and family. We appreciate you, not just today, but every day.
Today, I think about all the mothers who have taken care of us, advocated for us, and believed in us when we needed it most. I think about my wife, Monica, who our twin daughters are very lucky to have as their mother. I think about my mother, who worked so hard as a farmworker in the fields and at home to create a better life for our family.
My mom used to say that our family was “poor in money, but rich in love” and she was right. Her steady and dedicated love for my siblings and me carried us through tough times and pushed us to be the best versions of ourselves.
My mom knew that getting an education was the best way to get a professional career so that I wouldn’t have to work in the fields in the desert heat like she and my dad had to. She believed in my dream of becoming a doctor and returning to the desert to help people and encouraged me every step of the way. She prayed before every exam and interview I had throughout college, medical school, and medical boards, and before every election. Her support guided me to where I am today and brightens the path in front of me.
To all the mothers I represent in Congress and across the country, we thank you. You make everything possible.
For those of you who are struggling today, you are in my thoughts. I pray this day brings you hope.
Sincerely,
Raul
