The coronavirus became real to many students when they returned from spring break to find that their in-person classes had been cancelled and their graduation ceremonies had been postponed. Many miss the community, so are looking to find that online. That provides NeW an opportunity to still play an important role for them.
On March 26, Sophie Czerniecki, NeW Campus Program Fellow and senior at The Catholic University of America, and I led a discussion on Facebook Live on tips and tricks for effectively working from home. Whether for school or work, viewers were able to learn what we’ve found to be helpful working in our remote capacity with NeW. With more than 750 views since the video went live on Facebook, we have received a great positive response for addressing these challenging issues.

The next week, on March 30, NeW invited Lyndsey Fifield, Social Media Director at The Heritage Foundation, to lead a stretch break on Instagram Live.
On March 31, Equal Pay Day, Karin Lips, President of NeW, and Romina Boccia, leading fiscal and economic expert at The Heritage Foundation, hosted a conversation on Facebook Live debunking the myths around the gender wage gap and how working from home can give women more freedom and flexibility. Following the conversation, Lips was published in the Washington Examiner about the topic.

As you can see above, NeW has already been actively working to provide empowering and enlightening content for our women. We are working quickly to roll out even more opportunities in the coming weeks.
Job Searching and Growing Professionally During COVID-19
Because of COVID-19, non-essential businesses have been required to temporarily close their doors and send employees home to continue working as much as they can. But for many who are looking for new jobs, hoping to find a job before graduation, or wanting to continue building up their resumes to find jobs down the road, their work has come to a grinding halt. Join us on April 14 at 7:00pm EST on Facebook Live as Sophie Czerniecki, NeW Campus Program Fellow and Senior at The Catholic University of America, talks with Abby Bird, Recruitment and Training Coordinator at The Heritage Foundation, about how women can continue job searching, building their resumes, and growing professionally during these uncertain times.
If you do not already, be sure to follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to stay up to date on the many upcoming events we have planned.
Best,
Kathryn Alford Communications Manager
National Conference
Due to COVID-19, we have cancelled the 2020 National Conference planned for June. We have been actively monitoring the COVID-19 situation and believe this is in the best interest of the women who would be attending. Be sure you follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to learn about the exciting online programing we are running now and inspiring events we will be organizing as soon as the coronavirus passes.
NeW Chapters Go Online
NeW has been working with many of our chapters to provide online content for their members to help them find community and connection while social distancing. Several of our chapters have taken advantage and used our Zoom account to host meetings and events. For example, on April 4, NeW at American University hosted a virtual movie night where the chapter all tuned in to the Iron Lady on Netflix at the same time and then hosted a conversation about the film on Zoom. Additionally, on April 6, NeW at The Catholic University of America hosted a meeting to decide their leadership for the following school year and start planning events they can host in the fall when they return to campus.

Yesterday evening, on April 8, NeW at Mercer University, one of the newest NeW chapters, hosted Alyssa Condrey, NeW Program Director, for a discussion on, How to Find Your Dream Internship. During the Zoom webinar, Condrey shared with the women from Mercer University about what internship coordinators look for in an application and how they can stand out as a stellar intern.
