National Domestic Workers Alliance
============================
John – today isn’t just another day — it’s a day to honor the mothers and mother figures whose love and labor have made us who we are. To every caregiver who has touched our lives, we say thank you for helping us to grow and thrive.
We know that Mother’s Day can bring a mix of emotions. We’re here with open hearts for everyone feeling this day’s weight, and we completely understand if you need to stop reading this email now.
This Mother’s Day, we shine a spotlight on extraordinary mothers who do double duty — nurturing their families while extending their care to others.
These stories came to us from their families and the families they’ve cared for. They aren’t just inspiring; they're a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience woven through every act of caregiving.

Kathryn Slager
Kathryn is my mother, and she cared for my younger brother several times after he had surgeries for a chronic condition. The last time my brother had surgery, my mother had to learn to give him injections, as well as clean and dress his surgical wounds.
Without any prior nursing training, she learned how to do what amounted to practical nursing. She also provided much emotional support to him. As if those things were not enough, she helped with house cleaning, laundry, and cooking. If it were not for her, my brother would not have done as well as he has.

Wanda White
My mother currently is caring for both her elderly parents, as she also is caring for her health. My mother was diagnosed with chronic illness.
She never lets it stop her as she continues to work full-time as a housekeeper, maintaining her parents' household and their health, ensuring their needs are met.
Wanda does this with a smile on her face despite her health condition and pain she may be dealing with.

Gennessis Pereira
My mother Gennessis Pereira and my aunts Letty Barrios and Blanca Marroquin: They've devoted themselves to caring greatly for children teaching them Spanish and helping them reach their developmental milestones.
Their work ethic has inspired me to take on some of their characteristics in my own line of work. Their families always praise them and keep in touch even when they're no longer with them.

Today, we also recognize that honoring these mothers, and all essential caregivers, means advocating for policies that care for the caregiver . It's time to rally for the passage of comprehensive care policies that ensure:
* Paid Family and Medical Leave: No one should have to choose between their health and their paycheck.
* Affordable Child Care: Every family deserves access to quality child care that doesn’t break the bank.
* Support for Aging and Disability Care: Our loved ones deserve dignity and support in every stage of life.
* Fair Pay for Care Workers: Those who care for us deserve fair compensation.
* Equitable Reproductive Health Care: Comprehensive health care is a right that supports every family’s well-being.
Join us in celebrating these remarkable women by supporting initiatives that uplift and empower them [[link removed]]. Their stories uplift and inspire, and today, we stand in gratitude for all that they do, seen and unseen.
Your voice matters — let’s ensure our policies reflect our gratitude and respect for every caregiver.

The majority of domestic workers sit at the center of some of our nation’s most decisive issues because of who they are and what they do: they are women – mostly women of color, immigrants, mothers, and low-wage workers. They are impacted by almost every policy affecting the future of our economy, democracy and country.
Domestic workers can lead us toward a new, inclusive vision for the future for all of us -- and your grassroots support is the fuel that can get us there.
