Dear Mothers,

As a child growing up in eastern North Carolina, my grandmother raised me. Despite our humble beginnings, she showered me with love and affection and kissed me good night after saying our prayers.

She taught me important life values, including respecting my elders, being kind to everyone, and the significance of participating in the electoral process. She was my biggest supporter and celebrated my victories in every election.

As we approach Mother's Day, I can't help but remember the special bond I shared with her and so many mother figures. Although this is my first Mother's Day after her passing, those valuable lessons remain with me, and I'm grateful for our time together.

This Mother's Day, I want to honor and appreciate all mothers and mother figures who have significantly shaped our lives. Let's show them the love and appreciation they deserve today and every day.
