Mother’s Day can be a challenging time for many of us — especially for those who cannot be with their moms or who have lost loved ones. I am thinking of you today. If you are struggling, please take care of yourself and feel free to skip this message.

John,

I wanted to take a moment to wish every mom on this team a Happy Mother’s Day! After the past few years we’ve had, each and every one of you deserves a trophy — or at the very least, a moment of peace and celebration.

Motherhood is unconditional love, sacrifice, immeasurable joy, and complications. It is hard work that’s often overlooked and undervalued in our society. It is resilience and courage. John, I’m committed to fighting like a mom in Congress for our families.

As a mom, I’m fighting for paid family leave, because I know how critical it is that new parents are able to spend precious time with their infants.

As a mom, I’m fighting to defend reproductive freedom and access to contraception, because decisions about when and how to grow a family are deeply personal and belong to individual people – not politicians.

As a mom, I’m fighting to improve and expand affordable housing so that parents can put a roof over their children’s heads.

As a mom, I’m fighting to fund our public schools, because I know that education is a springboard for setting our kids up for a lifetime of personal and financial success.

As a mom, I’m fighting to make progress on America’s mental health crisis, because I know that both teens AND adults need support to navigate the challenges and stressors that come with everyday life.

Fighting like a mom means passing policies that will uplift America’s working families and make life easier for moms, dads, parents, and step-parents across the country. To anyone out there who is a mom or a mother-figure: Please know that I am in your corner and fighting for you.

Happy Mother’s Day!
