Trump can use the full power of the Defense Production Act to ramp up production and rush supplies to nurses on the front lines of COVID-19. But so far he has refused.

National Nurses United

We can’t wait any longer.

It’s been three weeks since Trump invoked the Defense Production Act to order General Motors to produce ventilators for hospitalized COVID-19 patients.

But so far he’s been reluctant to direct U.S. manufacturers to mass produce personal protective equipment (PPE) for nurses and health care workers including N95 respirators, shields, and other critical supplies.

As a result, there is still a nationwide shortage of PPE. Using the Defense Production Act to increase production of ventilators alone is important, but not enough.

The truth is that without personal protective equipment (PPE), we won’t need the ventilators, because there will be no nurses around to run them. Our nurses are the best defense we have to save lives, and it is our duty as a country to protect them.

Nurses and patients lives are on the line. The White House cannot delay any further — tell Trump to use the Defense Production Act to ramp up manufacturing capacity so we can get PPE to nurses NOW.

Far too many nurses are STILL without the equipment they desperately need to protect themselves and their patients from COVID-19.

Nurses on front lines of this crisis are going to work everyday wondering not if, but when they’ll contract the virus, pass it to a patient, and bring it home to their families.

We must make sure our government is doing everything in its power to dramatically expand production and distribution of the equipment needed to protect nurses, other health care workers, and patients. But it will only happen if we raise our voices together.

Please sign your name urging President Trump to immediately exercise his full authority under the Defense Production Act to ramp up production and rush supplies to nurses on the front lines of COVID-19.

All our lives depend on it.

Thank you for standing with nurses.
