Virginia’s Chincoteague Island is home to legendary herds of wild ponies that capture the interest of tourists and authors alike. Despite their popularity, the origins of Chincoteague ponies (pictured above) are shrouded in mystery. Are they descendants of the surviving population of a shipwreck? An archaeological discovery may have the answer.
