What do you do for exercise?
I do a lot of "enjoyable physical activities," skiing and snowshoeing in the winter and hiking and biking in the summer. I also love the elliptical, where I can double-dip and read at the same time.
What is one of your personal struggles?
Many Americans struggle with their weight, as do I.
Favorite music?
I like music that gives me hope and tells a story. I enjoy many genres, but folk and soft rock are among the ones I listen to the most. I also like country, pop, jazz, and worship. James Taylor is my favorite artist.
Favorite color
Baby blue.
Favorite Holiday?
Christmas.
What is a character trait people underestimate?
Curiosity.
What would be a perfect summer day off?
Coffee, sitting outside on the porch in the morning, followed by reading and learning. Then golf with friends followed by pickleball and a bike ride – the trifecta of enjoyable activity. Cocktails and a pontoon ride. Dinner followed by a campfire
What time do you get up?
It varies, but around 5-6 am.
Favorite food?
Do I really have to answer? Grilled hamburgers
Favorite vegetable?
Brussel sprouts
Fruit?
Apple
Favorite Drink?
Sparkling water. Red wine, IPA beer
Favorite type of movie?
I love dramas based on true stories with happy endings.
What is your favorite movie, and why?
For me, "The Shawshank Redemption" stands out. It tells a strong moral story about the power of hope, friendship, perseverance, and the human spirit to overcome even the most challenging circumstances. The movie portrays how to maintain dignity, integrity, and hope for the future.
"What About Bob" is funny.
Books?
I like non-fiction. The last two books I read were on world history and another on world religions. Right now, "Renegades: Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen and Barack Obama is on my coffee table.
How much time do you spend learning or reading each day?
Three or four hours.
How long have you been married?
42 years on May 15, 2024
What do you tell patients the most important thing they can do to stay healthy?
Have a sense of purpose, smile, laugh and cry, eat healthy, sleep well, don't smoke, commit to enjoyable physical activities, and be part of your community.
I heard you have many cousins.
Thirty six on my Dad's side of the family. My mom was essentially an orphan with an unfortunate story, so I never knew that side of the family.
Tell me about your friends.
One of my diplomatic friends shared this with me. We all have several types of friends.
