Speaking Out Against Antisemitism on College Campuses

In the United States of America on our college campuses, you've seen growing antisemitism. And you've seen silence from some of the heads of once-great universities, who are failing to protect their own students – not just Jewish students, any student that wants to stand up for Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state, for all of us who support Israel.

Earlier this week, I joined my colleagues to discuss this rise in antisemitism on college campuses and highlighted the importance of speaking out against these injustices – something administrators at these universities are failing to do – and emphasized House Republicans’ priority to stand up for Jewish American students.

Scalise Praises Luke Letlow Post Office Naming

This week, the House passed H.R. 7423, a bill I authored, to designate the United States Postal Service (USPS) facility located in Rayville, Louisiana, as the "Luke Letlow Post Office Building.” The late Congressman-elect Luke Letlow spent his life in service to his community and our great state. He was an inspirational public servant who loved Louisiana, and naming this Post Office is one way we can pay tribute to Luke's legacy of service.

Meeting with the Offshore Marine Service Association

Louisiana is the center of the American domestic maritime industry. I recently met with members of the Offshore Marine Service Association to discuss the importance of upholding the Jones Act, which is vital to our national and economic security. I have long been a strong advocate for the hardworking men and women in America’s maritime industry who work tirelessly to protect our waterways.

SBA Disaster Loans Now Available for Communities Impacted by the Severe Weather on April 10, 2024

I was pleased to see that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) issued an Administrative Disaster Declaration on May 3, 2024, for damages stemming from the tornadoes and severe weather that struck Louisiana on April 10, 2024. I’ve remained in contact with our local officials as the disaster recovery continues, and my office is available to direct individuals towards the resources that are available because of this declaration or to answer any questions you may have.

If you live in one of the following parishes and are a homeowner, renter, or business owner who suffered damage from the storm, you can apply for low-interest physical loans and economic injury disaster loans (EIDL). Those parishes include Jefferson, Orleans, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington.

If you’re interested in applying for a loan, you can apply online here or in person at the SBA’s Disaster Loan Outreach Center in Slidell, LA. The deadline to apply for physical loans is July 2, 2024, and the EIDL loan application deadline is February 3, 2025.

USDA ELAP Now Available to Crawfish Producers Impacted by the Extreme Heat in 2023

I was also pleased to see the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) authorize policy flexibilities to the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honey Bees, and Farm-raised Fish Program (ELAP) to allow for crawfish producers who are experiencing losses from the extreme heat in 2023 to access critical financial assistance.

USDA Farm Service Agency is now accepting applications from eligible commercial crawfish producers in Louisiana.

For additional ELAP information or to apply for program assistance, producers can contact the FSA office located in their local USDA Service Center.

As a reminder for downstream businesses, I joined my fellow Louisiana colleagues in supporting Governor Landry’s request for a statewide disaster declaration from the SBA. This request was approved by the SBA. Because of this, small businesses across the state that were impacted by last year’s drought are eligible for SBA EIDL loans. You can apply for SBA EIDL loans online here.
