FEC must investigate apparent Trump campaign cover-up of settlements
John,
When it comes to keeping tabs on corruption and fighting for accountability, CREW’s work never stops. Yesterday evening, CREW filed a complaint against Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign. Our complaint targeted an apparent Trump campaign cover-up of settlement payments by routing them through third parties.
We alerted the FEC to this effort to hide settlement payments, which was revealed by AJ Delgado, a former Trump campaign employee, in a sworn declaration in her pending lawsuit against Trump and his campaign over pregnancy discrimination.
These allegations paint a deeply troubling picture of potentially illegal activity carried out by Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign. The FEC must investigate and determine the validity of these claims. (You can read the complaint here.)
The American people need to know how campaigns are spending their money. Trump’s own admission of using pass-through payments to hide their purpose and protect his political prospects makes it even more important that the FEC investigate.
No one is above the law, not even Donald Trump.
That is not just a slogan to CREW—it’s a pillar of our democracy. That’s why we keep filing complaints whenever we see serious misconduct.
That's why we sued in Colorado to enforce the 14th Amendment. That’s why filed a complaint last month to the DOJ and FBI over an apparent fake loan Trump reported on his disclosures. And that’s why we sued over the Emoluments Clauses during Trump’s first term.
