Hi John, it’s Angus King. It’s no secret that healthcare and prescription drug costs have skyrocketed over the years, putting an ever-growing burden on seniors and families. When I talk to the folks who visit my office, out and about in my community, or anywhere else in Maine, I keep hearing the same thing — healthcare costs and prescription drug costs in particular are just not sustainable.
One of my top priorities when I first ran for the Senate was to ensure that ALL Maine people — seniors, teachers, nurses, construction workers — have access to affordable healthcare and life-saving medications. And in my time here, I've been lucky to work on many projects that invest in Maine’s communities, rein in prescription drug costs, and expand healthcare access.
One of those tangible victories is the Inflation Reduction Act which helped lower health care and prescription drug costs for millions of Americans, including tens of thousands in Maine. Since that bill was signed in 2022, we’ve been able to see the major impact it’s had on the people of Maine. It’s …
Reduced health care premiums by hundreds of dollars for nearly 60,000 Maine citizens;
Capped insulin at $35 per month for nearly 6,000 Medicare beneficiaries in Maine (compared to the $63 a month Americans had to pay for insulin before the IRA);
Made shingles, flu, DTap, and COVID-19 vaccines free for around 25,000 Maine people;
And starting next January, out-of-pocket drug costs for those on Medicare will be capped at $2,000, benefitting nearly 126,900 Maine people.
Often what we do in Washington seems a little vague and far away, but in this case, we made a real difference, and I’m proud to have been a part of it. After all, that’s what you hired me for.
All my best,
Angus
P.S. I’m running for re-election and Election Day is just around the corner. If you would like to donate just $10 or $25 towards my campaign today [[link removed]] so that I can keep fighting for YOU for another term, I would be incredibly grateful. Thank you.
There is nothing more important to Senator King than doing right by the people of Maine. This means fighting on their behalf for the issues that matter most, whether that’s health care, national security, veterans, education, economic certainty, the environment or job creation. Throughout his decades of public service, he has worked tirelessly to build relationships and improve opportunities for all Maine people, from Kittery to Fort Kent.
