Yesterday afternoon, in the final hours of filing week when candidates formally complete paperwork to run for office, two other individuals with the name Bob Ferguson signed up to run for Governor. They also both filed as Democrats.
News reports confirm that a right-wing conservative admits to orchestrating their candidacies. He even paid the filing fee.
Their intent is clear — confuse voters and diminish votes for Bob.
For the August Primary, only the top two candidates advance to the General Election. Their objective is to lower the percentage of the vote Bob receives due to voters unintentionally splitting their support between the three Bob Fergusons, so that another candidate can make it through the Primary in August.
The result? Bob loses.
The stakes could not be higher. Bob could literally lose this election as a result of this outrageous tactic. This is a direct attack on our Democracy and the integrity of the Washington state election system.
We want to be very clear — Bob could lose this election as a result of this attack.
