Did you see the news? The RCV Local Option has another huge moment MONDAY, MAY 13 on the House floor — when the Local Voices, Local Choices Act will be back on the House floor and voted on by the entire chamber as a standalone bill. We will be meeting at 10:30am at the entrance to the House chambers to greet lawmakers and gather there and in the gallery to make our presence known as legislators discuss and vote on the RCV bill. 

This is the biggest and most historic moment yet for our bill and the culmination of years of hard work — so we need everyone there to show support for RCV in Minnesota!

We also need to make sure that our lawmakers know ahead of time how important this issue is to you. If you haven’t already, take a few moments now to send them a message (add your own custom touch if you are able) and make sure they know you want them to vote YES! 

What: House Floor Session on RCV Local Option Bill. 

When: Monday, May 13, 10:30am (note, schedules are fluid at the legislature this time of year and the time is subject to change — we’ll alert you if there is a change in time).  We’ll gather outside the chambers to welcome lawmakers, then stay during the session to show our support outside the Chamber and from the House gallery.

Where: House Chambers, Minnesota State Capitol (75 Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard., St Paul, MN 55155). Note, you can park in the old Sears parking lot (425 Rice St, St Paul, MN 55103), or at paid or street parking nearby.

The Local Voices, Local Choices Act, carried by Cedrick Representative Frazier and Senator Kelly Morrison, ensures all Minnesota local jurisdictions (cities, counties, school districts) have the power to adopt RCV for local elections if they choose. Currently, less than 1% of local jurisdictions in Minnesota have the authority to adopt RCV. It also provides essential standards for local use of RCV, making the implementation process easier, and allows state certification of RCV voting equipment and tabulation systems, allowing for faster election results. 

Your presence is critical to support RCV and make sure the local option gets passed this year. RSVP now to join us, and don’t forget to send your representative an email letting them know where you stand!

The other bill scheduled for Monday is the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment) and we expect lots of people in green shirts to be there, too. We know many of you are both RCV and ERA supporters and we look forward to the orange and green solidarity there on Monday.
