Hi John,

In three weeks’ time we’ll be welcoming international and UK speakers, as well as Global Justice Now members and supporters, to Nottingham for our national gathering. We’ll be grappling with crucial issues for the future of our planet the and people on it, and important ideas for understanding how we can bring about change.

And I’m very happy to let you know that the programme for the day is now available. Will you be there?

The ecological crisis of capitalism and our alternatives

When: Saturday 1 June, 11am-6pm
Where: Nottingham Contemporary, Weekday Cross, Nottingham, NG1 2GB

Book your free place
Earlier this year, we forced the UK government to pull out of the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT), a bill of corporate rights in the energy sector that has become a major obstacle to climate action. With other countries leaving too, the ECT is on its last legs. The rules of the global economy prioritise the interests of billionaires and their corporations at the expense of people and the planet, but our ECT win shows we can dismantle them.

At From Plunder to Solidarity we’ll look at the way the global economy works, and the ways in which we in the global north are locked into a way of life which depends on ecological destruction. There’ll be an opportunity to hear from speakers involved in fighting free trade deals and extractivism, to get to grips with our campaign for a Fossil Fuel Treaty, and to understand the alternatives being proposed by social movements, such as food sovereignty.

We’ll also have a structured drop-in creative session, and stalls will include Nottingham’s independent bookstore, Five Leaves.

Nottingham Contemporary is just ten minutes’ walk from Nottingham train station, and the opening plenary starts at 11.30am in order to give time for attendees to arrive from outside the city.

On 1 June, let’s come together to celebrate our ECT win and talk about how we continue to fight for global justice in the year ahead.

In solidarity,

James O'Nions

It’s time to stop big corporations ruling our world

While much of the world suffers from a cost of living crisis, the five biggest corporations are earning more than a quarter of the world's population. We exist as part of a global movement to challenge corporate power and promote sustainable alternatives.
