Can you imagine spending your whole life since childhood in one barren, tiny place, with nothing that brings you joy or fulfillment, almost no interaction with anyone who understands you, no freedom, and no opportunity to heal from the traumas that brought you there in the first place ? For 43 years, this was the existence of a rightless elephant named Tonka, who was euthanized this week at Zoo Knoxville in Tennessee.
