Mother’s Day is this Sunday, so I wanted to take a moment to tell you about my mom and how much she’s inspired me.

My mom is my hero. She pulled herself out of poverty and into the middle class through education, and her example is the reason why I was inspired to join Teach for America after college.

This led me to teach in one of Dallas’ most underprivileged schools and ultimately to where I am now. I’m running for Congress so every child in our country can have the opportunity to achieve their full potential just like I could, all because my mother pulled herself out of poverty.
