Look Out Texans - Female riding bicycle
Look Out Texans
May is National Bike Month which is a great opportunity to celebrate the great health, environmental, and economic benefits of bicycling! While participating in bike events or going about your daily commute by walking, biking, or car, North Texans should remember to *Look Out* for one another while using the roadway and practice safe traffic behaviors.
To support guardians and teachers educate children about bicycle safety, the *Look Out Texans *regional safety campaign has educational resources developed by North Texas teachers customized for students in grades 3-5 and 6-8. A combination of videos and activities are available to help students learn about safe bicycling and walking practices. The *Look Out Texans* campaign provides all informative and fun resources for free online at [link removed] [ [link removed] ].
For adults, National Bike Month [ [link removed] ] offers other events like Bike to Work Day (May 17) or Bike to Work Week (May 13-19). While participating in these events, bicyclists should remember to always wear a helmet, stay alert, signal, and make predictable movements. Bicyclists do not have the same protections that drivers have in a vehicle and are vulnerable to serious or fatal injury in the instance of a car crash. Drivers have a responsibility to share the road with bicyclists and practice safe driving behaviors.
Drivers should *Look Out* for bicyclist using or near the roadway. Drivers should respect the speed limit, especially in school zones, and *Look Out* for children who sometimes make unpredictable movements and who can be challenging to see while driving. Drivers should give enough space to bicyclist on the roadway and allow a minimum of three feet when passing.
Bike Month reminds us that drivers and bicyclists both have a right to use the roadway and a responsibility to follow traffic laws. North Texans, *Look Out *for each other and share the road. Lemonade Day Hurst
Lemonade Day - Saturday, May 18
Lemonade Day is coming to Hurst! ??
Help us empower today’s youth to be tomorrow’s entrepreneurs!
Lemonade Day is a free, fun, experiential learning program that teaches youth how to start, own and operate their own business – a lemonade stand.
The foremost objective of Lemonade Day is to empower youth to take ownership of their lives and become productive members of society – the business leaders, social advocates, volunteers, and forward thinking citizens of tomorrow.
Each child that registers receives access to the Lemonade Day curriculum that teaches them lessons like creating budgets, setting profit-making goals, serving customers, repaying investors, and giving back to the community. Along the way, they acquire skills in goal-setting, problem solving, and gain self-esteem critical for future success. They keep all the money they make and are encouraged to spend some, save some and share some.
