Weekly Newsletter Official Newsletter First and foremost, we must address the embarrassing display put on by a few of our colleagues this week regarding a motion to vacate the speakership. This motion failed by epic proportions and would have jeopardized Republican leadership, potentially putting a radical leftist in the speaker's chair. It is critical, now more than ever, to unite as a party. While we may not see eye-to-eye on everything Speaker Johnson supports, we cannot afford to continue playing games. We were sent here to work for you, the American people. That's why our office will continue to prioritize the needs of the Lowcountry above all else. We introduced the "Border Security and Blockchain Technology Act: This bill mandates the Secretary of Homeland Security to implement a public blockchain-based system that enhances data security and operational efficiency across U.S. borders. This legislative move follows the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP)'s ongoing research into blockchain's potential benefits. The CBP has already developed a proof of concept, demonstrating how blockchain technology can provide increased protections for sensitive information. This bill aims to capitalize on these developments, proposing a system that would integrate and expand upon the initial successes to enhance the verification processes, reduce fraud, improve the tracking and management of goods, and secure the deployment of border control personnel. Meet Uno, a puppy rescued from the NIH This week we met with the White Coat Waste Project to discuss our PAAW Act bill and our collaboration to stop cruel and unnecessary taxpayer-funded tests on our pets. The PAAW Act would finally cut tens of millions in wasteful spending on the National Institutes of Health’s painful and deadly experiments on dogs and cats, like the barbaric testing on beagles funded by Dr. Fauci. WCW was joined by a sweet beagle named Uno, one of 4,000 dogs rescued from a disgraced breeder named Envigo that sold puppies to be abused and killed in testing labs funded with our tax dollars by Fauci, the NIH and other government agencies. Uno was rescued by the Kindness Ranch, a non-profit sanctuary that provides homes for animals released from laboratories. Luckily, Uno and many other dogs are no longer just a number– they are loved pets that belong in safe homes. White Coat Waste Project saved thousands of animals from harmful tests and has awarded me for my leadership in Washington. We will continue to champion policies and efforts that protect our sweet animals from government abuse. Are your neighbors aware of everything our team is doing in DC and in the district? Biden plan to extend ObamaCare eligibility to illegal immigrants gets pushback in Congress: 'Madness' A recent rule announced by the Biden administration that would make tens of thousands of illegal immigrants eligible for ObamaCare is facing Republican resistance in Congress – with a lawmaker moving to stop what she says is a move to incentivize illegal immigration. We plan on introducing a resolution of disapproval of a rule announced last week that would allow illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and are protected under an Obama-era order to be eligible for ObamaCare. We already have 20 cosponsors and four supporting groups. Congresswoman Nancy Mace visits McEntire Joint National Guard Base Congresswoman Nancy Mace visited McEntire Joint National Guard Base, May 5, 2024, for an engaging and informative day alongside the dedicated Airmen of the South Carolina Air National Guard. Awarded the American Golf Industry Coalition Champions Award: The Lowcountry is home to America’s finest golf courses and country clubs. Our office helped restart the Congressional Golf Caucus. This effort goes beyond enjoying a day on the course; it's about creating relationships with members from each side of the aisle. We also understand the economic impact of golf in South Carolina’s first congressional district, where tourism driven by golf brings in jobs and millions of dollars. Our office will continue promoting golf and tourism in the Lowcountry! We visited McEntire Joint National Guard Base: While here, we discussed fighter fleet needs with leadership. Our office remains committed to supporting the SC Air National Guard and our Airmen and families. We had a blast discussing the future of this base and the fleet, and of course, hitting 8.6 G’s in the F-16 fighter jet. Our Votes This Week: H.R. 7219 – Information Quality Assurance Act We voted ‘Yes’ on this bill because it requires federal agencies to rely on the best, reasonably available scientific, technical, demographic, economic, financial, and statistical information to support new rules and guidance. Additionally, it requires agencies to publish any model, methodology, or source of information on which the agency relies before issuing a final rule or guidance document. The bill improves the quality of critical information on which federal agencies base new rules and guidance and improves the public’s ability to comment on that information before agencies take final action. This bill is a good governance bill and institutes very common-sense bipartisan reforms. H.R. 7525 – Special District Grant Accessibility Act Our office voted ‘Yes’ on this bill, which defines special districts and ensures their eligibility for federal financial assistance. Special districts play a vital role in providing essential services, but they have faced challenges accessing federal aid. By clarifying their status as local government units eligible for assistance, this bill helps ensure these districts can continue delivering critical services to communities across the nation. H.R. 6192 – Hands Off Our Home Appliances Act Our office voted ‘Yes’ on this bill, which modifies energy efficiency standards for home appliances to prevent regulatory overreach. By prioritizing affordability and consumer choice, this bill ensures that new standards do not unduly burden consumers or limit product availability, aligning with our commitment to supporting policies that benefit Americans in the Lowcountry. H.R. 7423 – Designation of the Luke Letlow Post Office Building Our office supports this bill, which seeks to name a post office in Louisiana after Congressman-elect Luke Letlow. Letlow's tragic passing underscores the importance of honoring his memory and contributions to public service. By naming the post office in his honor, we pay tribute to a colleague lost far too soon. H.R. 8289 — Airport and Airway Extension Act of 2024, Part II Our office voted ‘Yes’ on this bill. This legislation extends various Federal Aviation Administration programmatic and aviation revenue authorities. With tourism and travel being critical components of the economy, extending these authorities ensures the continued operation of essential aviation programs and services. H.R. 2925 - Mining Regulatory Clarity Act We voted ‘Yes’ on this bill because it allows mining claimants to conduct ancillary mining activities. This bill aims to restore clarity and stability to mining regulations. By supporting this bill, we uphold the integrity of mining laws and promote responsible mining practices. H.R. 7109 - Equal Representation Act Our voted ‘Yes’ on this bill, which gives American citizens fair and accurate representation in government. By requiring the inclusion of a citizenship question on the decennial census, this bill promotes transparency and upholds the principle of one person, one vote. By supporting this bill, we advocate for policies that strengthen the integrity of our electoral system. Yours in Service, Congresswoman Nancy Mace Need Help with a Federal Agency? Call us today.
