Republican legislators are failing our teachers and students.

Roy Cooper for North Carolina

This week, America celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week and thanked public school teachers across the country for the essential role they play in shaping our future generations.

But, for all the thanks we give and all the appreciation we show, it’s not enough.

Public school teachers are underpaid — sometimes having to work second and third jobs just to pay the bills. Meanwhile, they’re pouring their own money into their classrooms, trying to give their students the education they deserve.

John, my mother was a public school teacher in North Carolina, so I know firsthand just how hard our teachers work. And they deserve pay that adequately compensates them for it.

I declared 2024 as the Year of Public Schools because I believe it’s critical to highlight the good work being done in the classrooms where more than 8 in 10 North Carolina students learn every day.

As Governor, I’ve prioritized giving public school teachers a raise and fully funding our public schools so that teachers don’t have to pay out of pocket for the supplies they need. But Republican legislators won’t have it.

The far-right has concocted a myth that public schools are failing our students. They have it twisted. Republican legislators are failing our public schools.

The future of our state goes to class in a public school, and we must invest in that future. Please: Sign on to show your support >>>

North Carolina is set to be one of the most important swing states in the 2024 elections.

Republicans need to win NC to return Donald Trump to the White House. Meanwhile, Roy is committed to flipping our state blue for President Biden.

Roy is term-limited and can’t run again this time, and our upcoming gubernatorial election is considered the most competitive gubernatorial contest in the country. Meanwhile, Republicans hold just one-seat supermajorities in both chambers of the state legislature — we MUST break the supermajorities to prevent the GOP from enacting their radical agenda in North Carolina.

Join Roy in the fight to elect Democrats at every level of the North Carolina ballot this November. Donate today.
