Taxpayers Should Not be Funding Healthcare for Illegal Immigrants

In yet another slap in the face to the rule of law, President Biden is now offering free healthcare to illegal migrants—a move that is not only unacceptable but illegal. In response, I introduced a Congressional Review Act alongside Rep. Michelle Fischbach (MN-07) to block this move. President Biden's plan to provide healthcare for 100,000 “Dreamers” is estimated to cost $300 million annually.

Blocking Noncitizens From Voting

Last year, the D.C. City Council passed a bill to allow illegal immigrants and foreign nationals— including Chinese and Russian agents to vote. Voting is a sacred right given to American citizens. This ridiculous measure disenfranchises the votes of legal American citizens and opens our election system up to a host of security issues. 

I introduced legislation to block noncitizens from voting in our capital city. 

The D.C. Board of Elections sent the below flyer to residents in preparation for election day, encouraging noncitizens to register to vote in D.C. This is wrong. Let me be clear: only American citizens should be voting in our elections. 

Revoke Visas of Hamas Rioters

I penned an opinion piece in the Washington Times with Senator Marco Rubio of Florida about our recent efforts to revoke the visas of foreign nationals within the United States who support Hamas, Hezbollah, ISIS, Al-Qaeda, or any other terrorist group. You can read the full piece here.

Investigating Havana Syndrome

As Chairman of the U.S. House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Counterterrorism, Intelligence, and Law Enforcement, I led a hearing to investigate anomalous health incidents (AHIs), also known as 'Havana Syndrome'.

Dating back to 2014, a number of U.S. officials and their families have reported major medical symptoms that have affected their auditory and motor skills. These issues became public in 2016 after employees and their families assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Havana, Cuba began experiencing similar symptoms.

We must work to ensure that those suffering from this illness are properly cared for—and take steps to protect Americans from foreign malign activity. Click here or below to watch my opening remarks.

Reimburse Texas for the Border Crisis

I led eighteen of my colleagues from Texas in sending a letter to the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security advocating for the State of Texas to be reimbursed for the border crisis.

Since President Biden took office, 7.9 million individuals have entered the U.S. through the southern border. The letter addresses the need for the federal government to take responsibility for the crisis at the southwest border due to its failed policies and inaction. Click here to read the full letter.

National Association of Realtors

I enjoyed meeting with the National Association of Realtors, including representatives from across Texas-11. We discussed how Congress can better support housing markets and local realtors.

Representing over 1.5 million professionals across the country, the National Association of Realtors is the largest trade association in the United States. It is always a pleasure to see West Texans in Washington.

CongressRAM Pfluger Dedication Ceremony

I am excited to invite the Texas-11 community to a dedication and unveiling ceremony for CongressRAM Pfluger, a new art installation by Raul Ruiz that will sit outside of our San Angelo Congressional office. The art piece highlights the pillars of the 11th District of Texas—energy, agriculture, and national security. Student submissions from the 2024 Congressional Art Competition will also be on display. 2024 Congressional App Challenge

My office is now accepting submissions for the 2024 Congressional App Competition. The competition is open to all 6-12 grade students in the 11th Congressional District of Texas and is an opportunity for students to develop their skills in computer science and STEM.

The deadline is October 24th, 2024 at 12:00 pm ET. Students can register and upload their app here.

PRIZES

• The winner from the 11th Congressional District, chosen by a panel of expert judges, will be featured on the House of Representatives website, House.gov, as well as on CongressionalAppChallenge.us. The winning app will also be displayed in the U.S. Capitol among other winners from across the country. Additional sponsor prizes to be announced.

RULES

• Students will create an application (aka app) for PC, web, tablet, robot, mobile, etc Any programming such as C, C++, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, or "block code" will be accepted.
• There are NO LIMITS on the application theme or topic.
• Students may work individually or in teams made up of no more than four.
