Greetings,
We hope you have had a great week! This week, our country celebrates public servants — who are there for our community day in and day out — our teachers and nurses! During National Teacher Appreciation Week and Nurses Week, we recognize their tireless and selfless service and continue to work in Congress to have their backs and deliver them the benefits and resources they deserve.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Mother’s Day this Sunday with loved ones. As always, we hope you find these updates and resources helpful.
Congressman Kim Reintroduces Legislation to Support Veteran-Owned Businesses
Today, Congressman Kim was proud to help reintroduce his bipartisan Better Utilizing Infrastructure for Lasting Development of Veterans Businesses Act, referred to in short as the BUILD Act. This legislation would create a new program for veteran owned small businesses to win up to 3 percent of federal-aid highway and public transportation contracts. As we continue to see once-in-a lifetime funding made possible from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, this legislation would help lift up veteran entrepreneurs who have the unique technical skills and knowledge to tackle these infrastructure projects.
The BUILD Act would go a long way to lift up our vets as we tackle our country's infrastructure needs!
A Celebration of the Power of Service and Volunteerism
This week, Congressman Kim was honored with Voices for National Service’s John Lewis Bridge to Service Award for his support of AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps Seniors, and his ongoing commitment to expanding opportunities for Americans of every background to serve and volunteer in their community.
Congressman Kim on Receiving the Award
“I am humbled to receive this award named in honor of a great American hero and public servant, the late Congressman John Lewis. I had the privilege of learning from his leadership up close in the halls of Congress. Guided by his courage and vision for our nation, I have hope in the power of service to uplift communities and strengthen democracy. From volunteers at local food banks in South Jersey to AmeriCorps members, I am inspired by what people accomplish every day when they harness their own passions and strengths to give back to others. By building off this gift of service and recommitting ourselves to serving one another, I believe we can overcome even our greatest challenges and work toward a brighter future for our country.”
