Friends,

It has been a busy week in D.C., but I continue to closely monitor recovery efforts in the district. Remember, if you did sustain damage to self-report that damage to the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT). There is more information on the importance of reporting damage so the State can get an accurate assessment to make disaster determinations which could allow for State and Federal assistance.

This week in Washington, DC we voted on a bill, the Hands Off Our Home Appliances Act, that would help lower the costs of appliances by prohibiting the Biden Administration from issuing new regulations that are not technologically feasible or economically justified.

Additionally, my Energy and Commerce Committee held an oversight subcommittee hearing that focused on NPR's bias in its reporting.

I'm happy to be back in Texas for a few days. I hope to see you all, soon. Stay safe and have a great week.

Sincerely,

Crenshaw discusses NPR Bias at House Hearing

Image

This week, I discussed bias at NPR at an Oversight and Investigations subcommittee hearing. Unfortunately, the new CEO of NPR failed to appear to answer questions about the culture and systemic bias in the news division at NPR. I was able to discuss the matter with other witnesses, one in particular who has significant evidence that proves the leftist nature of NPR.

Dangers Posed by TikTok and China

Image

Recently, I sat down for an interview at the Hudson Institute where we discussed the need for TikTok to divest from ByteDance, which has ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Through TikTok, the CCP is harvesting data of the millions of Americans that use the application. They can use that data against us in nefarious ways. It is important that we put a stop to the CCP.

I also discussed the rise of China aggression against the West and against Taiwan. China is supporting Russia and collaborating with Iran. These coalitions are dangerous for our nation and that of our allies.

From the House Floor:

This week, the House passed the Hands Off Our Home Appliances Act. This bill will help steady the prices of appliances that we rely on every day by prohibiting the Secretary of Energy from implementing energy conservation standards for products that are not economically justified or technologically feasible.

Today, homeowners spend roughly 34% more on appliances than they did 15 years ago and are having to replace their appliances more frequently. In fact, from 1995-2005, the average homeowner replaced their appliances every 12 to 13 years. Now, that replacement period runs every 8 to 9 years.

This week, I joined Neil Cavuto and Brian Kilmeade to discuss the anti-Israel protests on college campuses across the country, Biden's poor foreign policy decisions and the absurdity of the attempt to oust Speaker Johnson.

National Review’s Zach Kessel has been on the ground at Columbia University covering the pro-Hamas student protests. He joined me on my podcast to discuss his observations from talking with students about their motivations and end goals. We covered the influence of faculty and outside groups in organizing the encampments. And we discussed the legal ramifications of universities actively enabling antisemitism and discriminatory admissions.

Damage from the Storms? Please register on iSTAT

Image

As we continue to recover from last weekend's storms, state and local officials are working to identify damages and immediate resource needs. To assist with the damage assessment, please self-report damage to homes, businesses, and agriculture using the Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT), which can be accessed through damage.tdem.texas.gov. The information provided through iSTAT helps officials identify immediate resource needs and aids in determining eligibility for disaster assistance.

Academy Nominations Application Information

We are currently accepting applications for a nomination to a service academy. The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.

Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.
