The U.S. Department of Energy is supposed to evaluate whether U.S. fossil fuel projects are “in the public interest” — in other words, if they are good for the wellbeing of people and the environment. For too long the agency has approved projects without fulfilling its duty to protect public interest.
There's no place for fossil fuels in a safe and healthy world.
In January, the department took a small step in the right direction when it announced it would pause authorizations of new projects that export liquified natural gas. As it looks toward resuming approvals, it’s critical that it adequately evaluate the harms of fossil fuel exports — and end the expansion of toxic, climate-killing liquified natural gas exports for good.
Tell the Department of Energy to fulfill its duty and reject all new fossil fuel projects that hurt people, wildlife and the planet. |
