Friend, while Mother's Day in the US is celebrated during the second Sunday in May (this weekend!), some Latin American countries celebrate Mother's Day today!

Feliz D?a de las Madres a mi mejor amiga, the most important woman in my life: my mother, Maria Elvira Ramirez.


I've never been shy about my mother and her journey to the US, but I want to dive into how she's made me the person I am today.

Growing up, her and my dad taught me a lot about the importance of hard work. To make ends meet for me and my siblings, they both worked long hours at multiple jobs.

But that didn't stop them from being involved in their community. As a kid, I often helped my mother as she cooked the food at our local homeless shelter, and while she volunteered at our local food pantry.

From her, I've learned a lot about the importance of being compassionate, and helping others where you can. It's a mindset that I'm proud to take with me into Congress everyday.
