Dear Friends,
It feels like almost every day something is grabbing our attention – whether that’s the turmoil on college campuses, antisemitic graffiti and fliers in our communities, or the continued increase in online hate. In the campus update sent earlier this week, it explains how we are closely monitoring campuses to ensure Jewish students feel safe and heard. We also continue to advocate for the immediate release of the hostages who have been held hostage for over 7 months. We will not stop until they are all released.
When we turn on the news or scroll through our social media, it becomes easy to get bogged down in the negative. What empowers my team and I is the glimmers of hope that shine through the dark. We have seen Jews and allies come together to show their pride and speak out against antisemitism. When we stand together, we say that hate and violence have no place in our region or beyond.
For this month, I encourage you to continue to focus on the positives – not just the present, but in the past. May is both Jewish American Heritage Month and
Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, two groups instrumentally ingrained in American culture. Continuing to learn about groups outside of our own encourages us to embrace our commonalities and differences, making it easier to unite when hate emerges. Meredith R. Weisel
