Press Release - ‘Horrific’: Precious Life condemn ‘insidious’ abortion business BPAS’s introduction of through-the-post abortion pills

Date: 9th April 2020

Precious Life have condemned ‘insidious’ abortion business BPAS for their ‘horrific’ introduction of through-the-post abortion pills in Northern Ireland.

The British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS) is Britain's largest provider of abortions and is a multi-million-pound abortion business. Taking to Twitter, they said they were “delighted that today we are launching a pills by post service” so that women in Northern Ireland can now kill their unborn children at home.

Bernadette Smyth, Director of Precious Life, said the group are currently seeking legal advice to ensure this does not go ahead.

Ms Smyth blasted the abortion provider for capitalising on the coronavirus crisis to kill more innocent human life.

“This is an absolutely horrific attack on mothers and unborn babies across Northern Ireland. BPAS, as the biggest abortion chain in Britain, already kill thousands of babies every day – yet, not content with the enormous level of death and destruction they are responsible for daily in GB, they are hell bent on destroying and killing more human life in Northern Ireland.”

Ms Smyth continued, “Even at a time of unprecedented crisis when we are supposed to be focusing our efforts on preserving vulnerable life – BPAS are shamelessly doing everything they can to capitalise on the panic and crisis of women facing unplanned pregnancies to boost business.

“It is a despicable manipulation of the coronavirus crisis to further an insidious abortion agenda. This move will not only allow living, developing children to be killed; it will also gravely threaten the health and safety of women living in Northern Ireland."

Ms Smyth also pointed out that 24 women worldwide have died from adverse effects of the abortion pill and that BPAS themselves have admitted the abortion pill is incredibly dangerous.

“These abortion pills are not safe. Not only do they kill a child in the womb – at least 24 women worldwide have died as a result of taking these pills according to the FDA. These women’s lives matter, and the lives of women and innocent children in Northern Ireland matter and must be protected.

“On their own website, BPAS recognize the unbelievable danger of the abortion pill – they state themselves that risks include haemorrhaging; uterine peroration; infection, rupture of the womb; psychological problems and even death. It’s clear BPAS do not care about women’s safety.”

Ms Smyth also called out BPAS for claiming that abortion is a form of “essential healthcare” which must be accessed by women in NI during the lockdown.

“It is a fallacy to suggest that abortion is essential healthcare. Over 1,000 medical doctors have signed the ‘Dublin Declaration’ which affirms that abortion is never medically necessary. The scientific and medical consensus is clear that deliberately killing a child at any stage is never necessary.”

Ms Smyth concluded, “We will fight against this callous attack on human life and continue to offer abortion-vulnerable women facing unintended pregnancies at this scary time life-affirming and truly compassionate options.”
