Hi there, it’s Congresswoman Deborah Ross. Last week, I spoke in support of safe storage gun laws.

In North Carolina, guns have overtaken car accidents as the leading cause of injury or death for children. This is tragic and unacceptable. A big reason for this is the lack of safe gun storage here and across the country. In North Carolina, 42 percent of households legally own firearms — but half of those households don’t have safe storage.

Gun violence continues to be on the rise, especially in our kids’ schools, with 70 percent of school shootings committed by children in households with unsecured guns.

Guns must be stored responsibly, and kids should NOT have access to guns.

As a member of Congress, I will never stop fighting to pass legislation to end senseless gun violence and promote gun safety. That’s why I was endorsed by Giffords, one of the nation’s leading organizations fighting to end gun violence.

North Carolinians deserve leadership who will prioritize enacting common-sense gun violence prevention bills over the chaos and dysfunction of the Republican-controlled House.
