Dear John,
I hope you and yours are keeping well.
I wrote to you last week about Grace and Jennifer and their struggle to get the support they needed. Thanks to CPAG, Grace’s Disability Living Allowance was moved to a higher rate so they can go back to living life as they should – safe and secure.
Theirs isn’t an isolated case. You’ll have seen the news that 950,000 people applied for Universal Credit in two weeks of lockdown. You may have family or friends in this boat.
Many of these families will be forced into a spiral of debt as they wait five weeks for a payment, like lone parent, Laura:
On top of this, frontline workers are struggling to advise families to get the financial help they need urgently. This is because the social security system has changed significantly almost overnight.
With your donation, my team and I can provide expert advice to caseworkers so they can support all struggling families. Your support will give frontline advice workers the tools to put money back into the pockets of those of us who need it in these difficult times.
Please give what you can today.
Best wishes,
Owen Stevens
Universal Credit Welfare Rights Worker
PS: If you’ve already donated by post, thank you so much. At the moment we are not allowed into the office, and we will write and let you know we’ve received your gift as soon as we are able. Thank you for your understanding.
