John – This week, I continued to speak out against the antisemitic and often violent protests on college campuses. These protests are evidence of rising radicalism in higher education that we’ve seen in recent years, radicalism that must be rooted out in these institutions. I also highlighted a ridiculous proposal to expand Obamacare to cover illegal immigrants. I am grateful for the support of committed patriots like you who make this newsletter, and my re-election campaign, possible. I hope you find these briefs informative and I greatly appreciate your continued support of my campaign. We saw more chaos in the House of Representatives this week, as an attempt failed to oust Speaker Johnson. I voted against the motion to vacate, as it was yet another performative maneuver by attention seekers who want nothing more than to fundraise and gain fame for themselves. This is why it is so important that we elect serious, conservative leaders to the House this fall - building our majority with people who actually want to make law and advance the conservative agenda when they’re elected. That is what I’m going to be focused on from now until November, making sure we grow our Republican majority with effective conservatives who will move the ball forward on conservative policies instead of relish in performance politics. When you donate to my campaign, you’re supporting that mission and I’d humbly ask that you donate today. Any amount helps: SUPPORT MY 2024 RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN Now, here’s your brief. RISING RADICALISM IN HIGHER EDUCATION CLICK HERE OR ON THE IMAGE ABOVE TO LISTEN To understand the rising radicalism in higher education, it’s helpful to talk to those with the most intimate experience in these settings: recent graduates of elite colleges. That’s exactly what I did this week. I sat down with Zach Kessel, a recent graduate of Northwestern University and current Buckley Fellow at National Review. Zach and I had two very different experiences in higher education. When I was at Harvard, politics was rarely discussed in the vitriolic nature as it is today. You didn’t wear your political affiliation on your sleeve, and students did not hold animosity toward one another because of their politics. Compare that to today, and Zach’s experience at Northwestern, and the differences are quite concerning. Political vitriol is not only ubiquitous on college campuses - especially elite universities - but it has devolved into the most base kind of identity politics. Zach shares anecdotes of his orientation, when students were asked to stand up if they belonged to so-called “protected political classes” - black, gay, etc. It is a revealing podcast, and helpful to understand the current environment on college campuses where pro-Hamas protests have taken hold of these universities. You can listen to our full conversation at the link above and read Zach’s thoughtful pieces at National Review here: [link removed] WHERE ARE THE ADULTS? CLICK HERE OR ON THE IMAGE ABOVE TO WATCH The through-line for much of these pro-Hamas protests at elite universities is administrators and professors capitulating to the mob. At Zach’s alma mater, Northwestern, the school’s leaders bowed to the demands of the protestors, establishing a committee to further the BDS movement and even committing to building Muslim-specific housing for students and raise money for Palestinian scholarships. It begs the question: where are the adults? It’s important to remember that these are **college students**. Some of them just graduated high school. They know next to nothing about the world or the conflict they are currently protesting. These unhinged protests - about a topic that is brand new to most of these young social justice warriors - is a consequence of years of coddling by university administrators and professors. They let the inmates run the asylum for too long. It's time to restore discipline, focus on education, and actually learn something in the classroom. OBAMACARE FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS? YES, JOE BIDEN IS PROPOSING THAT CLICK HERE OR ON THE IMAGE ABOVE TO READ MORE Joe Biden is out with another brilliant idea to incentivize illegal immigrants to come to America. This time, it’s with the promise of a taxpayer subsidized healthcare program - Obamacare. You’ll recall that Joe Biden promised during the 2020 Democrat presidential primary that he would provide healthcare for illegal immigrants as president. Now, he’s making good on that nonsensical promise. The Biden Administration is rolling out a rule that would allow nearly 100,000 illegal immigrants access to the Obamacare marketplace. What’s worse, they are justifying this by making Health and Human Services modify the definition of “lawfully present” to determine eligibility. This is the problem with government programs. Not only do they fall victim to fraud, waste, and abuse — they become a handout for politicians to buy support. All because Biden uses the administrative state to bend the definition of “lawfully present.” I have cosponsored a bill to block states from enrolling illegal immigrants in Medicaid. We have to do the same for this new interpretation of Obamacare. ENDEX - my new campaign merch store - is launching very soon. And we're going to sell campaign merch you would actually want to buy!
