In addition, Congress passed legislation to force divestment of TikTok from its Chinese Communist Party-controlled parent company ByteDance so that Americans can continue to use the platform without the risk that Chinese Communist officials would be able to use the app to undermine our national security and privacy. President Biden signed the legislation into law on April 24.

National security experts are sounding the alarm and warning that our foreign adversaries are using every tool at their disposal, including apps like TikTok, to amass troves of sensitive data about Americans. Most Americans are unaware that data brokers compile dossiers about their interests, beliefs, finances, and movements. I strongly support Congress’s decisive action to mitigate our foreign adversaries’ ability to collect Americans’ data and use it against us. Trump & Republicans Want to Completely Eliminate Women’s Access to Health Care

I held a press conference this week to call for federal protection of the right to full reproductive health care services, including abortion, contraception, and IVF. Recently, former President Trump said states have the right to monitor pregnancies, and House Republicans passed extreme bills that would further subvert women’s reproductive rights by misleading, tricking, and shaming them at crisis pregnancy centers and by failing to address health care needs of pregnant students. Trump is responsible for destroying the nationwide protections enshrined in Roe v. Wade, and we will not tolerate any politician from New Jersey to California stripping away the right to full reproductive health care.

House Democrats have introduced multiple bills to protect a woman’s right to reproductive health care. As Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee last Congress, I led House passage of legislation to restore Roe v. Wade’s protections nationwide ensuring all Americans – regardless of where they live – can make their own decisions about their lives and their futures. The Women’s Health Protection Act would ensure that health care providers have a statutory right to provide abortion care and patients have a statutory right to receive that care, free from state bans and restrictions that are only intended to impede or block access. The Right to Contraception Act would protect the statutory right to contraception nationwide. House Democrats are committed to restoring reproductive freedom so that people - not politicians - can make their own health care decisions.

Edison Will Receive Federal Funding to Repair Hurricane Ida Damage

Edison will receive $2.4 million for permanent repairs to the Township’s sewer system that was damaged by Hurricane Ida. Flood water from the remnants of the storm overwhelmed the sewer system, causing two sinkholes in the sewer lines. The funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Flooding events and strong storms are a threat to our communities, and it’s important to ensure our infrastructure can withstand these major weather events. I’ll continue to fight to deliver the federal funding New Jersey needs to bolster our infrastructure’s resiliency.
