Legislative Update
We're down to the last week of the 93rd Legislature and we've had a busy schedule as the majority party attempts to push their entire wish list of legislation through in the final days of session.
Hudson Speech [ [link removed] ]
Late last night we brought forward an urgency on the bill that would send final approval of changes to the state flag to all of the voters of Minnesota before the proposed flag goes into effect tomorrow. Minnesotans deserve to have their voice heard when it comes to the flag that is supposed to represent all of us. My colleague, Representative Hudon speaks perfectly as to why this choice must be sent to the voters.
Next week will kick off with what is likely to be a contentious debate as both the National Popular Vote compact and the new Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) come to the House floor on Monday. The national popular vote bill would give Minnesota's 10 electoral college votes to whichever presidential candidate receives the most individual votes. This completely usurps the original intent of the Electoral College and diminishes our voice in selecting the leader of our country. The founders of our country wisely saw how a direct election for the office of president would centralize power in a select few most population dense cities that would overshadow the voices of Americans who chose life away from that hustle and bustle.
I am concerned about the ERA. To quote some of my fellow Republicans, "This is not your grandmothers ERA." The proposed language in the Equal Rights Amendment should be highly concerning to every Minnesotan. By muddying the waters around gender and biological sex this legislation will destroy women's spaces and eliminate many opportunities women have fought for. Women deserve to be treated as equal members of society. Legislating definitions based outside of reality and biological fact is not the way to achieve that.
Visitors to the Capitol

This week Brynn from Adams/Southland Schools joined us as part of the High School Page Program. The High School Page Program is a unique opportunity for high school juniors to participate in Minnesota’s legislative process. It’s a fantastic way for young leaders to engage with the legislative process and learn about how government functions at the state level. Thank you, Brynn, for spending the week with us and I hope you had a great time!

I had the honor of welcoming this group of students from Grand Meadow to the Capitol. I always enjoy getting to share my work as a legislator with young minds and answer some of the fantastic questions they come up with. Thank you for making the trip to Saint Paul and I hope everyone had an enjoyable field trip to the State Capitol.
Congratulations to Ellen, Mia, and Eeva from Austin High School for being named Scholars of Distinction by the Minnesota Department of Education. This prestigious recognition is awarded to only a select few students across the state, and it is a testament to your hard work, creativity, and critical thinking. Your remarkable capstone projects have set a new standard of excellence. Your achievements are not only a proud moment for Austin but also a beacon of academic excellence for students everywhere. Well done on this extraordinary accomplishment!
