Last month, Summer Lee decisively won her primary against a billionaire, AIPAC-backed opponent. This was the first chance the powerful Israel lobby saw to make an example out of progressives who had been calling for a ceasefire. Right wing billionaires poured millions into her race, and they still lost. Summer’s win sends a powerful message: That leading with moral clarity is not a political risk, and millions of dollars cannot and will not silence our movement for humanity and peace.
Progressives’ next test: Jamaal Bowman’s primary election in New York on June 25th. He’s up against the same forces that were spending millions to get Summer out of office. AIPAC is reportedly planning to spend up to $25 million in this race, and they’re preparing a massive ad campaign to back their handpicked challenger to defeat him.
Recent polling indicates that this race is close, and now is the time to make sure Jamaal and our movement have what we need to compete and win. We have momentum at our backs following Summer’s win, but we need to keep doing everything we can right now.

As a 20-year public school educator in New York, Jamaal Bowman has made it his mission to build community and fight for those too often left out and left behind. His record in Congress speaks for itself. He’s a champion for students, workers, and working-class families who centers the interests of the people to deliver on the issues that matter most. Like fighting for affordable healthcare, ending mass incarceration, and protecting reproductive rights.
A win for Jamaal Bowman will keep a true fighter for working families in Congress — and it will send a powerful message about how progressives CAN compete against and defeat AIPAC. But this is only possible if we keep fighting for this, together.
