I wanted to take a moment before Mother’s Day to tell you about my son, Sam.
When Sam was just 14, his cousin and my nephew, Alex was slaughtered in the Parkland Shooting.
Our lives changed forever that day.
Sam immediately dove into action to demand our lawmakers step up to end mass shootings for good.
Together, and alongside many other families impacted by these senseless tragedies, we’ve marched, organized sit-ins, met with our elected officials, and so much more to fight for critical gun safety legislation.

And now, he’s embarking on a national tour to rally Gen Z’s voting power in this HISTORIC election to win a Democratic Trifecta in government.
I couldn’t be more proud of everything Sam has done in the six years since Alex was stolen from us at Parkland. He inspires me every single day – and I know he’s going to inspire so many more people on his tour. But he needs our help to be able to get across the country to defeat vulnerable Republicans who refuse to take action to end gun violence. In 2018, my cousin and best friend, Alex Schachter, was murdered by a gunman with an AR-15 during the Parkland Shooting.
I was just 14 when the shooting happened and my world was turned upside-down. That’s why I’ve been fighting for a federal assault weapons ban for these last 6 years.

Since then I’ve met with dozens of Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill alongside other family members impacted by mass shootings.
We cried our eyes out while retelling our nightmares.
We even staged a historic 7-day sit-in at the US Capitol to make our voices heard.
After all that, Republicans still BLOCK efforts to end gun violence including the assault weapons ban.
The ONLY thing we can do to end gun violence is replace these phonies with Democrats. And that goes for protecting reproductive rights, our planet, and democracy, too.
So we’re launching a bold new strategy.
This summer, we’re going on a national bus tour to rally Gen Z, the most powerful voting force in the country, flip Republican-held swing seats blue, and usher in change that will save lives.
